When my friend's 90 900S broke the chain at 89k miles, the tech said that the tensioner failed. I'm not sure whether you could call this representative of chain failures, though.
For the SPG look-alikes: They may not have the buffalo grey leather interior and there may be marks where the badging was removed (if poorly done). If they didn't get all of the aero parts, the bumper extensions may have ribs (like the 900 and 900S). And, if it's a poor look-alike, the springs may not be as low as a factory SPG.
But then again, a well-done look-alike may be faster and handle better than a stock factory SPG.
