you should go ahead and replace rear seal ( and clutch stuff if ready for it). the rear seal plate should be assembled to the block before head gasket. hard to do if head is on when rear seal goes. with the head off you have lots of room to do whatever you can reach. water pump as well obviously. you may even be able to do drivers side top control arm since bushings can be replaced without pulling the arm if you have room to work and a big c-clamp. also replace the oil filter mounting adaptor gasket. clean the block good and snug all trans/engine bolts. clean or replace your oil turbo supply lines. I blow a nylon string through it and snake bits of rag and solvent through the inside. I find it easier to pull the engine when i do the head. that lets me clean everything real well and get to all sides of engine. dropping a full head/manifold/turbo back on is a back breaker.
