I'd say the 87 and later definitely looks less old, with the better bumpers and flush headlights. The hatch has aged much better than the sedan IMHO, mostly because of the sloping trunk and awkward tail in general. But they're great designs that have stood the test of time, especially when you consider their basic shell (the 99) dates to the late 60s.
