The fittings themselves are compression. Just 3/8" tubing with one of those compression couplings similar to water supply systems in your home. I've had mine taken apart for a cleaning. I discovered that after the nut was loosened, the metal tube would rotate, but would not come free from the filter housing. I had to give them both a good sideways pop with a blunt object to dislodge them.
I'm wondering if the leak isn't along the fitting, but the rubber hose? With age, those hoses and especially the compression connections that fix them to the metal tubing are prone to cracking and leaks. The 82T I bought recently had serious leaks at those locations. I at first thought (and hoped) they just needed a re-tightening to the oil filter housing. I ended up having to replace the hoses. You could get dealer supplied hoses, but I fabricated them with 3/8" i.d. rubber fuel line tubing reattached to the old metal fittings and hose clamps for the final seal. To remove the old hoses I had to saw (hack) the old metal compression fittings off at both ends of each hose. You saw the fittings off in a diagonal manner, peeling them back with a combination of hammer, flat head screwdriver and pliers, being careful not to cut the old fittings to which the new hoses will be reattached. Even if you do nick them a few times, a little filing will probably take care of that. Also, you'll probably find that the new hose fits tightly onto the old fittings. That's good. Use some oil to get them to slip on better. Then once those hose clamps are screwed on tight and everything is back in place, you won't find any leaks.
As far as priming the oil pump - even with the oil filter housing removed, and the entire oil cooling system drained, I didn't have to reprime.
