hmmm. I do not agree with RS. i never use any sealer at all on them but a touch ONLY on the distributor bridge is ok, 518 should be in your toolbox anyway but the amount of sealer needed is miniscule, silicone will be ok but dont goop it up. The key to sealing is cleanliness and even torque. I bought a small torque wrench just for the bolts. i use acetone on the head, go lightly on the pressure with scotchbrite and they do shed. i prefer a small wire brush. make sure that the vc cover is free of crap as well. a lot of people\mechs have put in gasket sealer which builds up it he grooves. i just oil the gasket and clip it into the cover and pop it on. practice a few times with the gasket dry. you have about 1-2 seconds to flip it and get it into position. make sure all bolts thread in and the hole covers straddle the head reliefs. hold it in place with one hand and put in a top and bottom bolt tight enough to hold gasket. ( loose hand tighten) it is important to work from the inside out while tightening. make 3 passes. one east, one at torque and one loosen and retorque to verify it has pulled eown square. DO NOT OVERTORQUE. if you have nicks on the head then a touch of 518 or silicone on them is fine. use it very sparingly. it should seal without any sealers at all.
piece of cake.
