checked out the coldstart, to make sure it's functioning correctly? I actually have a similar problem, when I installed my euro-fuel distributor...really hard cold starts. My guess is that it's the mixture, because I didn't change anything else. I'm going to try to get mine running with the correct mixture and see if that helps the situation. I'm still going to try to diagnose the warmup regulator and coldstart, even if it does help it because my idle varies nearly 1000 rpm between cold and warm. If you have a bentley, try following their diagnosis, hopefully that will work.
