Bought my latest project[1987 900 TC] for $1000.00 and did the following
All new pads, rotors and front calipers
Right front wheel bearing
2 ball joints
Shock bushings
Tires
Top
Complete Paint[incl wheels]
Complete interior[incl dash]
New bumper cover[rear]
Door weatherstrips
Rebuild Turbo
Door top weatherstrips
Rad
Coolant bottle
Convert to stick and rebuild trans
Both outer CV joints
Upper control arm bushings
Tune up stuff
Blower motor
Hundreds of little things
Last night it got a new rack and today I drove it 500 miles[Cleveland to near Boston, on my way to work as crew for a pro-rally in Maine] It ran perfectly and didn't rattle or squeak. Of course then the APC flaked out.
My point is this, Old body 900s are a love affair. You will spend tons of money and time on her then she will kick you square in the nuts[trans failure] You want reliability buy a Toyota just don't expect her to do the thiongs your old girlfriend did.
