Then again, the car isn't worth much, so putting a significant amount of time and $$ into it probably isn't productive. For my money, I'd change the oil & filter, put in some fresh gas and fuel additive to absorb water, and turn the key. If you want to pull the valve cover and plugs and slosh a bit of oil in there, that's pretty quick, but I wouldn't bother dropping the oil pan, nor would I bother with any new gaskets at this point. Get it going with the minimum work, see what leaks or doesn't work, and then fix whatever you can't live with or without.
It doesn't sound like you're really very interested in driving this car. Consider as an alternative calling one of the charities that take old cars off your hands. You (or your dad) get a charitable deduction, and they get whatever they can out of the car. They'll come and tow it away, deal with the paperwork and leave you with a clear spot on the driveway.
