I know some may say not to do it cause you could have the car in gear by accident, but from the mechanic side NOT pushing in the clutch is best for your engine. When you push in the clutch, you are compressing the spring fingers by pushing against the crankshaft which is pushing against the engine thrust bearing. This bearing has been sitting there with the oil running off it while the car was parked. SO untill you have oil pressure, you have the risk of metal to metal contact. I have not seen much wear in SAAB engines from this, but I have had to overhaul a couple of Asian cars for this problem. Its easy to check for thrust bearing wear with a clutch. Watch for the crank pulley to move while someone pushes the pedal.
