Just because it smokes a little doesn't mean it will fail.

Even if it smokes a lot after idling for 5 minutes or so (normal high mileage 'smoker' turbo) it will probably pass the emissions cert.

Just make sure the engine is hot, has been run for at least 10 miles prior to the emissions test, and hasn't loaded up the cat before the test.

One other thing..synthetic lubricants burn a lot cleaner than the dino oil...unless you're burning a LOT of dino oil, like more than a quart a thousand miles, you'll get a lot fewer deposits with the synthetic although it might be a bit more expensive. At a quart a thousand miles, you'll hardly ever have to change your oil, either!
