Apart from emptying the tank (mostly, at least - I didn't completely empty mine, just enough out of it to lose most of the weight) here's what you have to do: If you take out the two bottom pieces in the trunk, you'll see two round objects in the foremost part. The one on the right is smaller than the one on the left and it's made of rubber. The one on the left, the bigger one, is a sheet metal circle held by a rubber edge. If your car is N/A you only need to take out the right rubber plug. Watch out with the wires that run through it. Underneath the rubber is the fuel gauge sensor. Take out the plug. I don't know how the fuel supply lines run exactly on a N/A car, but I guess it's pretty obvious. You'll have to unhook those. Maybe that's done from underneath the car, if you have the tank loose.
If your car is fuel injected, you'll find the fuel pump under the sheet metal plate on the left in the trunk. Take off the wires (remember, you'll also have the sensor on the right side; also there's a connector there for the fuel pump wires) and break the bolt on top loose CAREFULLY.
In both cases (unless I've forgotten something, so keep an eye out) you now move under the car (rear end) where you'll find the tank held in place by two strips with a 13 mm nut on the ends. You're going to have to turn these nuts all the way off. It's a long way too. If you're lucky, you can unhook the clamps somewhere along the way. I wasn't lucky.
Now the tank should be loose; check for loose ends and clear them up. To get the tank off I jacked it up on the right side; that gave me enough room to sort of twist it out. It wasn't really hard, just took long and was boring.
BTW, you said rust in your tank?? How come??? It's plastic!
