Air Distribution Switch wiring

On my 1987 T900S convertible my large <=> switch position does not power the fan and has caused me to do extensive research about the placement of the wires on the switch (previous owner had a radio installed and a number of posts indicate that some dufus installers are prone to unintentionally disconnecting necessary wires!). However, all parties that posted a view about placement agree there are 6 terminals on the switch - however, my Bentley shows only 2. This is the first inconsistency.
Townsend site says the wire colours from top to bottom are:
Large Grey, Gray & Violet, Small Gray, Not Used, Violet, Yellow & Violet
Other postings:
1. Purple & Grey, Large Gray, Small Gray, Nothing, Purple, Yellow & Purple
2. Gray, Gray & Violet, not used, not used, Yellow & Violet, Violet
Yep, I'm confused. Does anybody whose air distribution switch works on an 1987 convertible know for a fact if any of these are what I should find when I pull the dash/switch and if there are 6 possible connections why does Bentley show only 2??? TIA
