Aha. Someone else who can't get his new steering belt on. I did mine a month ago. Even after I had loosened the pump/pulley the belt wouldn't go on, so I tightened the pump assembly up as close to the engine as it would go while still maintaining a small clearance, put the belt around it and around the crank pulley as far as possible, then turned the engine over by hand to get the belt on.

I would have expected enough movement on the pump to get a new belt on, but there you go.....

There are two bolts near the pump reservoir which allow the assembly to rotate, there is a 3/4 nut down the bottom, accessed from the radiator side, and also a smaller bolt on the engine side of this 3/4 nut. 4 bolts/nuts in all to loosen.
