That sounds just like my p/s leak. The high pressure line can leak at the fitting at the pump or rack and make a mess over time with little difference in the reservoir level. How old is your p/s fluid - the older the blacker? On the other hand, a crankseal leak throws oil all around too, but you should see oil on the inside of the pulley.

I blotted, sniffed and ended up just tightening and checking all the p/s connections. The obvious leak I did find was from the return p/s hose that attaches to the bottom of the pump. This was evidenced by drips off the bottom of the hose bend, but I wasn't sure since there were drips off the rack and tranny case. I tightened the existing hose clamp and it still leaked, so I added another just below it. That did the trick. I'd do what your mech suggested and just keep an eye on the levels, but I bet its p/s. By the way, it sucks tightening all those bit down.

These things are normal for a 10 year old and I happily waste my weekends fixing them :) I tend to speciallize in the mundane maintenance bits like belts and squeaks, and have little experience with "internal" repairs. Your SPG is relatively new to you and the first thing to do with a used car is replace all the fluids so you have a baseline. As much as my wife complains about me working on my SAABs, I think she likes it when I get dirty and actually fix something. If I wasn't working on the car I'd be working at my desk...
