85 900S - Ingrid
I'm in the process of replacing my ball joints, half-shafts, brakes (rotor, pad, caliper), and tie rod ends.
I'm stuck on the lower ball joint. The outer bolt is off. I've removed the nut from the inner bolt but the thing just won't budge! I've taken my propane torch to it, tried to tap it out from the end with the nut, soaked it with penetrant (3M and PB Blaster brands, again and again and again). I've loosened the nut from the top of the joint, holding it to the wheel assembly but my pickle fork won't get it to budge but I've now REALLY destroyed the boot on the ball joint so now it REALLY has to be replaced. Put simply, the inner bolt won't pop out and the ball joint itself won't pop out of the wheel hub assembly thing. Grrrr. I'm off to find a press tool tomorrow morning.
Also, the screws holding the rotor in place just will not budge and I'm afraid I've started to strip them a little. I've also taken a propane torch and penetrant to them but to no avail. Is drilling them out my only option? Any idea what size bit to use if I do?
To think, I was worried about getting the half-shaft out!!! I've got the tie rod end undone, the upper ball joint out, the half-shaft out, caliper and pads off. I did not expect to get caught on the lower ball joint and rotor.
Grrrrrrr.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
She better drive nice once I've got all this new hardware on her.
Thanks for your help or simply listening to my b*tching and moaning!
