Funny you mention this, I recently had the same experience with my first Saab 87 900s. I read this board, and cleared me up. I took it to a shop for a tune up, but it needed nothing (Bosch platinums, good wires, and cap). Someone mentioned in another article air mass meter, or AMM as it is referred on the board. So this morning, I got up, cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol very delicately (I do this with computer parts in regular PC's), then put it back in. I started checking the vacuum hoses by squeezing them to listen to engine performance. 10 bucks later, and about 45 minutes with two new hoses properly sealed, better cold start (started three times today three hours apart), and when I pull up to a stop light no grunting.
Two pieces of advice, listen to your Bentley, and to this board. I have found more resources here than I could have imagined. Glad I did not buy the extra amm now.
What it's worth (very little).
Marty
