And lots of people, even Massholes (technical VT term for residents of MA) use snowtires. Yes, there are Blizzaks with studs, but they aren't so hot on dry pavement. Only place I ever ran studs with good effect was in CO high country where there was dependably snow covered roads during winter.
Salt has its place in high people concentrations which unfortunately involves most of the NE coast. Unfortunate, but too many rats in the cage.
