In Canada, as in the rest of the non-USA world, they were marketed as AEROs.
Actually, the SPG is just a dressed-up 900T (In the USA, most years have lowered springs and an APC adjusted for slightly higher boost), so what you have found is for all practical purposes is an SPG. There are all sorts of aftermarket things you can do to improve performance to any 900T.
There's no special code in the VIN or any other modifier to identify them. About the only thing you can do is take off the door panel to see whether the manufacturing lable on the door indicates that it came from the factory with the SPG panels.
I think it's more critical to your enjoyment that the car has been maintained well and doesn't have hidden rust or mechanical problems. If it's sound, then by all means, get it.
