I just did a speedo/odometer repair on my 86T. The speedo worked but not the odometer. I have yet to test it because I'm doing a stereo install while everything is apart.
(Really I can't remember which way the little wires with the blue plug go on the backside of speedo. Green on the left or to the right? Or would it matter?)
I was concerned by a possble differnce in AT's and 5spds ratios. So I connected a cordless drill that maxes out at 900rpm to the cable drive on the speedo. On one unit it gave a 35 mph reading vs 37 mph with the other. Theese number may be off a little but there was a definite slight difference. I tested four times and the reading didn't change; in case the drill was loosing it's charge. I removed the two black screws on the guage's face and rotated the face to remove the three screws which can be accessed through a hole in the face. Now you can remove the Odometer portion from the Speedo part. I swapped these rear sections and now obsereved that the guages read their counterpart's previous speed. I thought this is too easy. So I reassemled everything in their orginal way. The speeds reverted. I tested this at least four times. Yes, I have no life, or maybe I'm just avoiding it. At 65 I figure a rough difference of 8 or 9 mph's. I have yet to try it under highway conditions because i need to get the stereo in first. (ehm... blue plug figured out) If you care or anyone I follow up when I'm done.
