If the APC box is, in fact, red, then you have a Red Box, from SAAB. If your car is well-tuned and you can boost up to, but not into, the red, then your box is stock, untouched. If, however, your box is black and you get boost into the red, then it's possible that you've got an APC that's been a) tweaked by the prior owner, or b) tweaked professionally by SD, SPG9, et al. Many claim these $$ boxes are better than your own back yard tweaks because full boost doesn't taper like OEM boxes.
Re: exhaust. I recently installed a midpipe/muffler on my 89 900T; did some searching of old threads here and found that a) lots of heated discussions about aftermarket exhaust (rust issues, poor fit, etc.), b) lots of debate whether going bigger than stock diameter does anything for you (my impression from posters was that stock is completely adequate unless you're making *serious* horsepower - way more than just adding a tweaked APC could provide), and c) some of these aftermarket exhausts are $$. I spent about $70 on Starla parts and an afternoon on my back installing them (I live Left Coast, though, so only minor rust issues to contend with). Starla is OEM - go to eeuroparts.com and look at their pics of OEM vs Starla: same damn thing, but Starla *way* cheaper.
