when I've had to stomp on the brakes, my new-to-me '90 SPG would veer as well. Brakes were fine, but one of the rear shocks had failed. Now with new rear shocks ($82) no more hard braking veer.
My '90's have always felt stiff on regular braking. The pads you use make a difference as well as condition of brake fluid.
Replace the rotors and pads yourself to offset the investment you just made - it helps to feel better. It's really pretty easy, just be sure to lube the bleed screws for about a year before attempting to open/bleed the brakes. I snapped a bleeder this weekend and then snapped my e-z out off in the bleeder! BTW, you could also consider stainless brake lines at the calipers ($120).
