I think that you got it fairly close.
If the bronze-colored cylindrical part that you mention is about 3/4 of the way back from the front of the engine, right by the black valve cover, you got that right (it's the Fuel Pressure regulator.)
The 3 openings on the front of the throttle body (above the intercooler on the right side of the engine) are usually plugged with black rubber covers. The other end of the hose that goes to the fuel pressure regulator goes to one of the white tees on the intake manifold (right side of the engine) that have other vacuum hoses coming off of them.
But, you got it running smoothly again, which is half the battle.
It's probably not a bad idea to replace all of the vacuum hoses around the engine because they have a tendency to shrink, get brittle, crack, and fall off after 8 years or so. And your '88, like mine, is well over that age.
