No, no, no. The *AMMs* on the LH 2.2 are all aluminum. The cases on the ECUs are all metal (I checked the ECU on my '89 SPG).
Without knowing or having ever seen the car, my best guess is that you may have one that some previous owner dropped an engine from an '88 or earlier 900 and didn't change out the timing chain cover to add the crankshaft sensor mount, and cobbled it so it works.
What's the engine serial number?
