Mike Schadan (aka Mike9) has power somewhere in the neiborhood of 270+HP at the wheels!!! and this is on a stock bottom end. when you make power of this magnitude you need to worry about shooting a gear out the side of the tranny, the 2 liter engine can produce far more power than the rest of your car could ever take.

how much HP do you want to add? How much money do you want to spend?

for $3K-$4K you can make some serious power increases,
ported 2.1 head
built turbo (T3 or hybrid)
3" exaust
big injecters
stage2 APC
Rising rate FPR
Big bore TB
hotter ignition

this is the bulk of what you would need for really high power, there are other mods to be done, but this will alow you to accive it. you will also need many hours on a dyno to tune the car for proper A/f ratio ( you have to be care full when you make a small engine put out his much. if ever thing isnt tuned right you could hole/melt a piston.

to give you an idea, A Built engine that has been compleatly gone through will cost. to make it withstand "crazy" amounts of power like 400HP. the long block will set you back $6K-$8K( depending on mods )
Im getting just such an engine soon that has been reinforced with ARP studs for the head and mains, ARP wavelock rod bolts. lightned stock crank, stock rods that have been shot peened and side grinded/profiled, Lightweight JE forged pistons .020 over, with ceramic coated faces and teflon coated skirts. up top a fully ported 2.1 head and a copper gasket to get rid of 1 of the 2 major problems saabs have ( blowing head gaskets and blowing trannys )
Unfortunatly the tranny will not be as strong as Id like, it will be a heavly modified 92 900T 5 speed. the entire gear set will be shot peened. then the entire tranny will be cryogenically treated to further relieve stresses. the case is being welded up around the critical load areas to prevent cracking. the inner driver are beeing fabricated out of billet steel. The diff cover is being done in steel as well, to keep the trans from craking in half. both the pinnion and intermediate berrings race seats are being bored out ever so slightly to allow for a larger race to beinstalled, and a even larger berring. the diff will be a Qualf copy that has good wet weather manners. the primary gears are being upgraed to the #8 set .72 ratio. and to keep all that togther longer, were adding a oil cooler/filter to the trans that will be driven by a auto tranny recrculation pump.

this is just the tip of the iceberg as performace goes, theres really no limit of what one can do to a car other than $$$$$.
Hope this helps,
Jordan
