Had a fuel pump going out on me give similar symptoms. When the pressure drops the car will go lean and the computer will pick this up. Do the how does it sound check first. Pull the trunk board and the plate over the pump and listen to it. Give it a gentle smack with a 2X2 or 2x4 and see if the sound changes. Sounds crude but found mine that way. If you have the ability do the technical stuff check Pump flow and pressure. You wern't low on fuel were you? could be the main fuel pump is starving for fuel, thats caused by a bad feed pump or eductor, depending on which your car has.
