I have exactly the same car (4 door sedan) with over 190,000 miles. If the body is in excellent shape with no rust, your car should have many, many years left.

My suggestion (without seeing the car). Repair it and keep it. You have already spent enough money to make a resale not worth while. About 100,000 to 120,000 miles is usually the time when one starts finding a number of mechanical issues (e.g., fuel pump, headliner sag, wheel bearings, a/c, minor oil leaks, interior lights, heated seats, rough idle, etc.). However, mileage-wise your car is a baby. You are just beginning to break it in! Hopefully with a little more additional expense, you will be fine. Slowly, but surely, you are replacing the old, worn components with new ones that should last another 100,000+ miles. After a little more expense, you should have a very dependable car with mucho character.

I went through a similar story with my '89 900S when I first bought it. After much initial expense, I now have a dependable, great running, great looking SAAB. Windshield ($350), wheel bearing ($200), headliner ($300), major service ($350), a/c ($500), fuel pump ($300) were some of the expenses I had the first year or two. That does not include the work I did myself. However, I now average less than $400 in maintainance and repairs every 3 months, or about $100 a month. That is far cheaper than any new lease or car payment so I now plan to keep my car for another 100,000 miles.

If this was my car, I would try to find an independent SAAB mechanic in the Philly area that you are comfortable with and have the initial problem fixed there for about half the cost. When you get it back to VA, I suggest finding another independent SAAB mechanic in your area and plan on a complete major service as soon as you can afford it. This way you start staying on top of any issues before they become costly problems. Like a good relationship, the trick with old-generation SAABs is staying on top of the maintainance and fixing problems no matter how small before they become bigger.

No matter what you decide, Good Luck.
