I had two new complete axles with tripod bearings and drivers put in @ 90k. Well at 112k the pass side driver boot tore. Thing was there was no grease spun out. He replaced the boot with a German made one,(he said that they were higher quality than the reg. ones here in the us) and outter cv grease.
Took it to my mechanic, he also found that the outer boot on the driver's side CV joint had torn. It must have happened on the way to the mechanic because I had looked all of them over right before I took it in, at my house. Upon removeal of the driver's axle, he found that the joint was very very stiff but not bad. Called up his supplyer and got a new reman one. Installed it.
After $150, I was out of there. Charges: New boots, grease, labor
What I did to prevent the pass side from heating up: I'm not sure exactly for the turbo's but it worked very well for the 2.1L header and piping. Just go to a speedshop and get 15ft of heat wrapping. If you have seen the red Pikes Peak car, they use it all over the place. Also need some screw type hose clamps to hold the material to the pipe. Total cost:$13
Now I can actually touch the pipe after running it hard. Something that would have been impossible before (even to get near it).
Good luck and if you have any other ?'s : JustinHiFi@Hotmail.com
