Viking Automotive and I had a HELLUVA time once with a stumper like this. We elected to use a rebuilt tranny on an SPG that I was restoring and selling. It had been rebuilt, but by who we did not know. The workmanship was suspect, but everything seemed to be in order, and a few obvious problems were fixed before bolt up.

The whole car had been rebuilt otherwise, as well. Once we got the car back together (initially) we took it out for a test drive. Under boost, starting from 2K rpm, this insane rattle, more like a shudder would come from the car. It got progressively worse as we drive more. We replaced both inner drivers, the clutch, the flywheel, repacked the cv's, among other things. Eventually, we yanked the box back out and opened up the tranny. The rebuilder had used the wrong size chains and sprockets, and the chains were slapping against the oil slinger inside the box under boost! The tranny had obviously been rebuilt from a melange of parts, and poorly at that. That was quite a night.

Thankfully, they had another rebuilt box, that THEY built, on the shelf and ready to go. Bolted it up, and drove away. I seriously hope your problem does not sound or end up like this.
