Yes, I thought of the possibility of this particular "other than SAAB" Bosch unit having found it's way to a SAAB at some point in it's life. Considering the general condition of the motor, and after removing it, my observation is that it had been mounted there for some time. No doubt a compatable unit. But not used as it was intended since the vac/boost connections were unused. As far as the part number goes - it's the same as all SAAB units, except that the last set of three is one digit off the standard number for that year, 101 instead of 102. I will also ask my local parts genius as you recommended.
The SAAB manual says that a particular (vac/boost inlet equipped) warm-up regulator was affixed to Turbo cars without the APC system. It's function was to provide increased fuel under boost conditions. Cars with the APC system use the boost switch which directs the pulse ratio to the rich fuel air setting, at the same time disregarding the O2 sensor/Lambda control. What I'm wondering is if an additional device such as this particular warm-up regulator valve (once hooked up properly) will help increase the fuel mixture that much more under the same boost conditions. Sort of a poor man's performance modification. Anything to get rid of this goddam knock here in CA using dumb (91 octane) premium gas. Set my timing back to eliminate knock you say? It's already set back enough and I don't want to lose my low end performance any more than at present.
