I would plan on doing con rod and main bearings...if they're not worn, they're almost certainly corroded/pinholed. 265K is a long time!

Plan on complete seal kit for engine and new rings. Chances are the bores are still pristine...mine at 200K still had the OEM honing marks/crosshatch visible!! These are HARD bores! (Ran synthetic since I got it at 133K). Measure the bore or get .005 oversize and fit the rings to the proper end gap accounting for smallest bore ID and taper.

I didn't do valve job on my 87 at 200K...now at 245K and no valve sealing problems. However, on a 265K motor I might have thought differently and had the valves done...maybe replace the exhaust valves and replace intake valve seals, lap in the new valves and/or have the valves/seats ground to at least three angle specs. Check the cams for wear/lift, valve springs need to be checked for free height and installed height force. Any machine shop that does Saab heads should be able to do this for you or you can maybe do it yourself with a load cell (swipe momma's bathroom scale) and bench press (or even drill press) and a small ruler/scale. The new digital bathroom scales have reasonable repeatability so you should at least get some idea among the valve springs.

Good luck...this is opening a can of worms and that generally works out to money or time. But there are few things more satisfying in a manly man's world than rebuilding and installing and running like you hate it an engine you rebuilt (or had rebuilt) yourself!
