After you have removed the valve cover to replace the pad, you can inspect the chain for stretch, but you cannot adjust anything. With any luck the valve cover pad will solve the problem.
Check out the townsendimports.com technical documents for more info. There are marks on the sprockets, which line up with corresponding marks on the cam mounting blocks. Set the engine to top dead center at flywheel inspection opening and the cam marks should line up. Inspect chain for any obvious wear. Do not be tempted to turn engine ahead using a wrench on the cam sprockets. Instead pull the Hall effect plug on the side of the distributor and then you can bump the engine ahead with the starter without running the engine. When you get close to TDC and are able to see some of the timing gradations on the flywheel, you can use a screwdriver to "pry" the teeth of the flywheel ahead to get to exactly TDC.
If the marks don't line up(but they probably will), get yourself a Bentley manual. Replacement of chain by roll-in (master link)method can be done from top of engine, but to replace chain guides and lower chain sprocket, you have to pull all the belts, the crank pulley, oil pump cover, and timing cover. It can technically be done with engine in the car, but not easily because of poor clearance to firewall.
