the battery and clean the insides and outsides of them real well. Double check your water (acid) in the battery to make sure it's full. Take a look at the ground on the front of the car and check it for looseness or corrosion. Then reinstall the battery and go for a long drive. Voltmeter should charge at 13.5 to 14 volts normally. If it still does the same thing, check the battery at an auto parts place. Just because it's only a year old doesn't mean it can't fail. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
