Should not have malfunctioned in 2 yrs. I pulled my static pistons apart, where bearings and plate are. If you can rotate the levers freely, i suspect all's well inside?
there is a specific method to set the e-brake, after cables are adj'd ... pull 4 clicks, pump brake, repeat, etc. This advances an internal adjusting screw ass'y that is located behind the floating piston, by way of the push rod.
if this fails to set it, I would not suggest pulling back off in place. i did mine off the car.
