Down at the front brakes: two pads, one yoke, caliper, comprising piston that you can rotate to wind it back in when putting new pads in and on the other end of this piston is a 'fixed' piston, onto which the handbrake part fits. This bit is the darker coloured part with the big groove in that slots into the yoke. The handbrake lever fits into it through a hole at the end.
I can move the lever through its full movement and still turn the rotor with one hand: handbrake doesn't work. I need to get inside this darker 'cylinder' to clean it and reset the mechanism. It is an interference fit on splines on the fixed piston. Inside is a plate the handbrake lever slots into, 4 ball bearings and another plate that acts against the pistons and operates the brake. The whole mechanism tends to get crudded up and not operate fully. I think I am correct in saying if it doesn't reset itself the handbrake doesn't work properly.
Anyone know any trick for disassembly without wrecking pistons and seals>
BTW 'Bray' means bash until it breaks....sorry.
