Could be lots of things and you would need to go through a no start trouble shoot process (get your hands on a Bentley manual). Did you replace the fuel filter when you did the pump? One thought would be that there is a serious blockage that seals up under pressure from the pump, so you get some initial flow but that's it.
The evap cannister up behind the headlight has nothing to do with idle control, it just captures gas fumes from the fuel tank. The vacuum hose that attaches to it is a frequent source of vacuum leaks that lead to fast idle not usually stalling. I also don't think it's your O2 sensor.
The AIC (auto idle control) valve is bolted to the head near the thermostat, with one elec connector and two air hoses. While I don't think this is your problem, clean it out with carb spray and finish with wd40 and make sure the hoses are intact.
All AMM's look fine, it's the circuitry that goes. No start trouble shooting gives connector voltages and basic resistance, but the best way to test is to swap in a known good one.
The code grounding needs to be switched on and off to read the codes...again get a manual. If you are following the correct code capture procedure and the light is not reading properly, you may very well have a bad ECU, and 89's for some reason seem to go bad. Swap in a known good one before you buy one. You might check out the townsendimports.com tech documents for a trouble shoot sequence before your manual arrives.
