Well, it was the alternator. They are putting in a new one and replacing all the belts at the same time. I figure it's not a bad time to do it especially with winter coming. The alternator (new) installed with all the belts changed out and a systems check of everything else associated is $580. Am I getting screwed? The alternator is $230 or something and then the rest is labor and the motor belts. I don't think it's extremely excessive, but it certainly isn't cheap. I have heard wonderful things about where I took it to and luckily it was very near where it broke down (a big deciding factor). They were very nice and straight forward, but I'm going on day two without the car and it's costing me a lot of money. Ah, the joys of car ownership. I'll be happy when I've had this car for sometime and am settled in and don't need to deal with so much of this.
