Its hard to look the other way on a $100 car. The tranny rebuild and head gasket might set you back a grand or more if you don't do it yourself (and while you have the head off, you may as well check for warpage and resurface it -- some places like saabperformanceparts.com will also do more on it, check 'em out). There are also a few resources on the web and on saabnet for turning that auto into a standard, if you're so inclined.
Take a look for corrosion underneath the car, especially on the rails that have the lower a-arms mounted on them. I'd say go for it; with a little money and elbow grease (okay, a bit of money) you could have a long lasting, reliable vehicle.
