here goes... for some time I have been looking for a mid to late eighties 900 - I like the classic look and I fit comfortably in them (think tall). However, finding one in tip-top shape for under $2000 is darn difficult (I am a grad student - don't want to eat rice and beans for the rest of the academic year). However, I think I may have found something - a red '89 turbo sedan with 115K... and a bit of body damage (looks as though the rear driver's fender was side-swiped). The car is being sold by a saab mechanic that occasionally buys saabs at auction, tunes them up, and then leases them to clients (I guess some folks like to lease old and classy cars...I will own it however). Mechanically, the only thing that appears to be wrong with the engine is that the cluth slips at high rpms when you really push the engine and make it work hard (he told me the clutch "disc" needs to be replaced.. my words, not his) - the windows and sunroof all work, the brakes seem fine, the transmission seems ok (doesn't pop out of reverse, fourth or fifth). Only one thing bothers me, and that is some additional damage I noticed and didn't know what to think of it... the floor in the back seat area, on either side of the center "hump" is domed out - when you look under the car, it looks somebody or something hit the floor board up with enough force to put a significant dent in it. What do you all think? Could this be from a forceful hit from the side that caused the car/frame to buckle (the car seems to track normal when on the road - no noticable "dog-tracking")? or did the previous owner manage to launch the car onto a stump or cement divider in a parking lot? It is easily enough fixed... I guess I am just worried about the integrity and or safety of the frame. Thanks for your input.
