Don't know the technical specs, but having one can't hurt. Also, the shroud top piece isn't the only air baffle/guide used with an IC. Rubber pieces of one sort or another are used on all 4 sides. If you have more air flowing through that unit, better the efficiency. One thing I've always wondered about - without knowing the aerodynamics of the car at varying speeds, there may not be that great an air flow through the IC because of possible "back draft" or some other air pressure induced back pressure in that part of the engine compartment. Consider the vaccum port systems in the throttle chamber. Because of the dynamics of air zooming past that one spot (higher pressure one side, lack of pressure the other) near the throttle disc, a high vaccum occurs within each port. So with the IC - with all that air rushing past the coolant radiator and hitting the engine, said air must rush around the engine. At higher speeds, that no doubt causes a pressure zone where it zooms around the engine. Suppose that pressure "wall" subsequently reduces the volume of air that would otherwise pass through the IC? If so, some sort of barrier seperating the air rushing past the engine and that flowing through the IC would be a likely solution. Of course, not having the air-filter box RIGHT BEHIND the IC would also improve the air flow.

Then there's the aircraft wing shape of car to begin with - the hump above with relative flat beneath. Because air is pushed over and around the hump, air will be drawn up from below to fill the void, and perhaps the greatest pressure from below is where the air is first seperated - right below the nose area of the car, right where the outgoing air from the IC must pass. Wind tunnel testing anyone?
