ALTHOUGH YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT THIS HAPPENED TO YOU-eMail ME & I'LL KEEP YOUR ADVICE CONFIDENTIAL--
My idiot son-in-law cross-connected the terminals on the battery on his 1983 Saab 900 Turbo. He said that smoke immediately erupted from the alternator area(I assume that this was the regulator). Suprisingly, the car actually started after this, but when switched off, would not restart or even make a noise. I have observed that the only instrument panel light to come on is the brake light which flickers. Could someone out there give us a step-by-step procedure to go component-by-component to check-out and/or replace the parts. The wire schematics are like Greek to us (we are gearheads who work on carburated cars) and we need guidance so as not to spend a fortune replacing electrical parts that are not needed. I would appreciate any responses to give us guidance. Thanks.
