Cory,
George and Andrew are right about the bubbles. Not normal. I just did all the pads on my '84 S this weekend. I had to keep turning the piston in with the tool and followed my Bentley manual (great resource) which said following:
Do not turn piston in too far--meaning past flush with caliper face. If more room is needed to fit the pads in, turn piston while sliding yoke outward.
To do this, I turned piston in with one hand while simultaneously pulling yoke outward using a brake spring hook-type tool hooked to the disk (you can use anything to grip yoke and keep pressure pulling toward outside end of axle). Hope this helps.
