classic, it depends. I would hook up a digital voltmeter to your O2 sensor(not the heater wires, but the sensor wire)with wires(one to ground) long enough so you can have the meter in your car. Check out the readings under various driving conditions. The meter should fluctuate between 0.2 and 1.0 volts averaging at 0.5 at idle. Higher voltage is richer and under load the average should be richer, up around 0.8 volts or so. Adjust the AMM screw to get those "readings." An Air/Fuel meter is the same idea but uses LED's to show the same thing. My experience is only with a digital voltmeter and the voltage jumps all over the place, so you're just able to make approximate settings. An A/F meter is probably better damped. There is alot of info on this on the performance bb.
BTW, tweaking the AMM is not going to improve your performance unless you are doing it in conjunction with other mods. Most tweakers have already turned up the APC p and f pots, and upgraded their injectors to 30lb. The concept is to lean the AMM so you can run 30lb injectors without an overly rich mixture.
With stock injectors, if you get it too lean, you can flunk nox emission tests, and if too rich, you can overheat your cat converter as it tries to cut the carbon related emissions. You just want it right.
