the new system is completely electrical (no manual distributor) with control of both timing and fuel maps as well as electronic boost control. only good seeing knock will do is enable me to tell during tuning phases if a fuel vs timing setting with a certain amount of boost will cause knock. since you can hit predet with the correct amount of fuel with boost and wrong timing, it is essential, imho, to know whether or not the engine is hitting predet; prior to hearing it. however, once tuned, it should be unnecessary, well, at least until the warmer weather rolls in and affects things more. btw, i just got done removing the ezk system earlier this year (changing a n/a engine out for a turbo engine), don't really want to digress...
