I accelerate to about 2600-2800 RPM, take my foot off the gas, push the gear shifter into neutral and up to the next gear, wait about half a second to a full second, and push it fully into the gear. You can feel resistance like it is blocked (not grinding), and then with steady but not hard pressure, it will just go right in with zero grinding as the gears reach the same speed. Downshifting like this is a little harder but entirely possible. It is a good skill to have if your master, slave or line ever take a dump on you unexpectedly. I could drive across the country if I had to...just start the engine with it in first and then clutchless shift up to 5th...
