Double clutching has SOMEHOW fixed my steering wheel shaking in 4th and 5th gear. My mechanic thought it was a bad wheel bearing..however: I read a post suggesting double-clutching today. So, not even considering the shaking and only wanting to see how it felt, I used the double-clutch method and the gears rotated PERECTLY in sync.

I could actually feel each gear place just right. (which means I felt nothing at all) 5th gear was the most impressive. The stick-shift planted firmly right where it obviously should and there was NO shaking at highway speed.

I have no explanation for this, considering the shaking was pretty irritating beforehand. I can only imagine that the mechanism in the 88's tranny that allows shifting without double-clutching is damaged or shot. And therefore perhaps the gears weren't working properly..causing the shaking. I have no idea. All I know is that the shaking has disappeared.

What a MIRACLE!! I highly suggest double-clutching...

Double clutch method.

Neutral
Press Clutch
1rst gear
Press Clutch / Neutral / Let off clutch / Press clutch
2nd gear
Press clutch / Neutral / Let off clutch / Press clutch
3rd gear
...and so on

Absolutely smooth as silk!!!!!!!!!
