To check the CV joint, crank the wheel full over, roll the window down, and drive in a tight circle slowly (driving fast like this is way too exciting). If you hear a click-click-click, it's the CV joint. Wheel bearings provide a 'ballsy rumble' when loaded. Find a nice piece of roadway where you can go around a decent curve at speed. As you go around the curve and the noise increases, the outside (loaded) wheel probably has a wheel bearing problem. If you've narrowed it down, jack up that wheel, and grab the tire at 3 and 9 o'clock and wiggle the wheel back and forth. Try the same at 12 and 6 o'clock. If you feel a little play, the wheel bearing is going. Don't confuse side-to-side play with play in the steering. When you do the wheel-wiggle test, a bad bearing shows up pretty clearly compared to a good one.
Good luck!
