older cars have throttle position switch while newer models output the exact throttle angle. The air mass meter keeps its filament at a set temperature. The air rushing by cools it off so the electronics in the amm gives the filament wire more current in order to maintain that temp. I believe it determines the mass of the air going in by knowing how much current it's adding to keep the filament at the constant temp. Then it outputs a signal to the ecu. The ecu uses that signal to figure out how much to open the injectors. I don't think it uses that signal at full throttle, though I'm not positive. I think the upgrade of amm compared to the older style metering plate is the amm measures mass, not volume. I could be wrong but I think those old CIS air metering plates only determine the volume of air coming in. The mass of air changes with ambient temp so it isn't as accurate. When determining how much gas you need with given amount of air, the ratios are measured in mass (kg), not cubic feet. Uh..what was that you were asking again?
