How fast should an SPG be?

Greetings, all!
Quick question; I test drove an '88 SPG the other day, but really wasn't blown away by it's performance. My '86 9000 turbo seemed to be a heck of a lot faster than this thing was. Naturally, I have no numbers or times to back anything up, I'm just talking about the seat-of-the-pants feel.
Granted, my '86 is one of the early ones imported to the U.S., so it's supposedly pretty quick for an early 9k; but with something like 185HP, shouldn't the SPG be noticably faster?
Just curious, as I'd never driven an SPG (or classic 900 turbo for that matter) before.
