Nice work on the repair. My low rpm hesitation is improved as well, but I attributed it to the new fuel pump (I did this at the same time as my check valve mess).
Tapping lifters is really common. I've over-analyzed this to no end. My Saabs have always gone through a "seasonal adjustment" when the weather turns cold or warm. The onset of cooler temps always initiates the tapping, but after a while it doesn't seem to happen as often. Weird. Oil and filter are factors as well, but I use the Mann's too and still have some tapping. Synthetic also seems to increase the cold start valve noise, but oddly enough, as the oil gets older the startup tapping goes away. My old '90 900 base would tap like hell on cold (0 degress F) mornings but aways went away after a few blocks. My current SPG doesn't tap too much (knock wood). This must be a record for the number of times "tap" was written in a post...
