Could be many things. Some further checks to make:
1) check all vacuum lines for leaks and eliminate any found.
2) check cold start valve to be sure it squirts fuel when cold and shuts off when warm. Check thermoswitch controlling cold start valve.
3) check position of air flow sensor plate
4) measure fuel pressure to make sure you're getting fuel to the injectors and good spray pattern from them
If these don't help, it wouldn't hurt to check timing, but my guess this isn't timing-related. Also, I doubt this is the Hall sensor. When my Hall sensor went in my '82, it shut the car off completely, almost like it was preventing spark from reaching the plugs. From what you've described, this is not your problem. I also wouldn't think about taking the head off until I exhausted the basic checks, such as no leaks, good spark, and fuel.
If you need more help, post back with more info --- Does prob go away when car warms up? Is it only when warm? Etc.
